Two Different Forces

I have often found myself reflecting on an interesting difference between love and hate.

Hatred almost always seems to have an object. It arises because of something—an injury, a fear, a betrayal, or a disagreement. It points toward a condition.

Love, however, sometimes seems to transcend conditions. Parents occasionally love a child despite disappointment. Friends sometimes remain faithful despite distance. Compassion can even extend toward strangers.

That has often made me wonder whether love and hatred belong to different categories altogether.

I do not know.

But I find the thought worth carrying with me.
