The Nature of Art

Today was one of those mornings when I woke up asking myself what on earth I was doing. Why try so hard—why even bother? What difference can it make? Is it really worth the effort?

Still, I knew I could not back down. I had tried that before, only to discover that if I didn't even try, I would never know. And I would not find peace.

So I got up and started the day. I made my coffee, opened a magazine, and found this passage in an article about the nature of making art:

"Somewhere at the intersection between the will to conquer the world and the impulse to withdraw from everything that offers resistance, art resides.

To practice art is to be forced to learn a mature way of relating to resistance, whether one wants to or not.

One cannot simply seize what one wants, but neither can one lose courage and back away."

I had to smile. Apparently, I am not the only one in the world who has doubts. 😊
