Today was a beautiful day outside — perhaps a bit chilly — but the sun was shining, and the air was fresh and clear. The vegetation has not yet sprung into action, but the birds were already expressing their excitement about the new season ahead.

As we went for a walk in the hills behind our house, we saw the first butterfly of the year. It was the yellow kind we call lemon butterflies, and there is a childlike joy in a moment like that — one feels happy and uplifted.

The butterfly in today’s photo is not the one we saw on our walk, but one photographed in an organic spice garden in the mountains between Kerala and Tamil Nadu in South India some years ago. That was a beautiful day too!
