There is an interesting difference between spiritual surrender and surrendering to an enemy.

When we surrender to oppression, injustice, or intimidation, something within us tends to shrink. Such surrender does not feel liberating.

Yet spiritual traditions often speak of surrender in an entirely different way.

Here, surrender is not about giving up to a hostile force. It is about letting go of our resistance and trusting something greater than ourselves — whether we call it God, truth, goodness, or simply life itself.

Strangely enough, that kind of surrender can feel liberating rather than humiliating.

Perhaps not all forms of surrender are the same.

I do not know.

But I find the distinction worth reflecting upon.
