Inner Peace

We all long for peace, but how do we ever find it?

In Swedish there are two closely related words: “fred” and “frid”.

Both can be translated as “peace”, yet they point in slightly different directions.

“Fred” usually refers to peace in the world around us.

“Frid” speaks more of serenity within ourselves.

Perhaps we need both.

Yet I sometimes wonder whether inner peace is where lasting peace begins.

When we find a little more tranquility within ourselves, we become less inclined to hurt others and more inclined to understand them.

The world changes in many ways.

Perhaps one of them begins quietly, within each of us.
