Once upon a time, one of our ancestors posed the question why for the very first time upon this earth. What caused it we cannot know. It might have sprung out of frustration, or it might have sprung out of awe. We cannot know, but whatever caused it, it opened up a whole new perspective upon this earth. Let us call it The Big Why, and let us recognize that we are still in the wake of its influence. This initial why opened a door to a whole new field of inquiry. No longer was it only about how and where we should eat and mate; suddenly we stood face to face with a deeper question.
